Food intolerance support in Amsterdam: find your triggers, widen your diet

Food intolerance support at Mesology Amsterdam helps you find out which foods cause your complaints and why, so you can calm your body and eat a varied diet again. Adriana Guarin helps with lactose, fructose and histamine intolerance and other food reactions, by looking at your digestion, gut flora, stress and nutrition, alongside your GP or allergist. No referral needed, in English, Spanish or Dutch.

A food intolerance is not the same as a food allergy. An allergy involves the immune system and can be dangerous; an intolerance usually involves digestion and depends on how much you eat. Both deserve a proper look, and an allergy always belongs with your GP or allergist first.

Food intolerance often goes together with other complaints, such as headaches, skin reactions, fatigue or a blocked nose, especially with histamine intolerance. Mesology looks at the whole picture.

Why choose food intolerance support at Mesology Amsterdam?

Many people with food reactions end up on a diet that keeps getting stricter, without knowing what really causes their complaints. Online tests and lists often add to the confusion.

At Mesology Amsterdam we look for your personal triggers and the reason behind them, so you can calm your body and eat a varied diet again.

What food intolerance support looks at

Food reactions rarely stand on their own. These are the six areas I look at during food intolerance support.

Which complaints you have, when they appear after eating, and which tests your GP or allergist already did.

Pulse and tongue observation show how strong your digestion is, and whether heat or dampness, in Traditional Chinese Medicine terms, may play a role in your food reactions.

Stress makes the gut more sensitive and can increase histamine release, so calming the nervous system helps.

The gut flora and enzymes such as lactase and DAO determine how well you tolerate lactose and histamine.

A diet that avoids triggers but still gives you all the protein, vitamins and minerals you need.

After a short elimination phase, foods come back one by one to find your personal limit.

How food intolerance support works

Food intolerance support in three steps

  1. Intake (90 minutes): your symptoms, food diary, history, stress, sleep and earlier tests, including allergy tests.

  2. Assessment: pulse and tongue observation, an EPD measurement of your digestive organs, and a review of your food and symptom diary.

  3. Personal plan: a short, targeted elimination phase, gut support and a structured reintroduction plan.

Follow-up consultations guide you through the reintroduction, so your diet becomes wider again instead of stricter.

questions about food intolerance support

Questions ~

A food allergy is a reaction of the immune system that can be severe, even to small amounts. A food intolerance usually involves digestion, depends on the amount you eat and is not dangerous, although it can be very unpleasant.

Food sensitivity tests based on IgG antibodies are not recommended by allergy experts, as they do not reliably show intolerances. A food diary, a short elimination phase and structured reintroduction give a more reliable answer.

Usually two to four weeks, followed by a step-by-step reintroduction. A strict diet should be temporary, to avoid nutrient shortages.

Often it improves a lot when the underlying causes, such as gut problems, stress or nutrient shortages, are addressed. Many people can tolerate more histamine again over time.

Yes, if you have severe or sudden reactions, swelling of the lips or throat, or difficulty breathing, as this may be an allergy. Also see your GP to rule out coeliac disease before cutting out gluten.

Many supplementary insurances partly reimburse consultations with a registered mesologist; basic insurance does not. No referral is needed, but bring any allergy or blood test results you have.
